Self-pay Clients
New Heights welcomes self-pay clients. Insurance can be difficult to navigate, so we offer various payment options to fit your needs.
Here’s a few highlights you may want to consider when deciding whether or not to use insurance or self-pay.
- Self-pay, private pay, paying out-of-pocket can all be used interchangeably.
- Private pay allows you access to the provider of your choosing without the concern of whether that provider is in-network or out-of-network.
- With private pay, mental health diagnosis is not mandatory and not submitted to your private health records.
- There is no limit on the amount of sessions.
- You are able to maintain your therapeutic relationship with your provider even if your insurance plan coverage changes.
- More services are allowed without restriction. Most insurances will not pay for services like parent skills training, career coaching, marital problems, or personal development, however, with private pay you can.
- If you are employed, ask whether or not your company has an Employee-Assistance Plan (EAP). If so, inquire about those benefits as some offer mental health support. Ask your therapist whether or not your EAP is accepted.
Using your Insurance
Insurance is a very common way of paying for services and as such, there is a lot to consider. Please contact your insurance plan for your coverage specifics. Here are a few items you may want to discuss:
What is a deductible? How much is my deductible? What forms of payment can I use to cover my deductible?
At the beginning of each plan year, most insurance companies require a specific deductible be met before they begin covering services.
Do I have any copays?
Depending on your insurance plan, you may have no copay, or a very small out-of-pocket copay due at the time of service.
What portion am I responsible for if I need medications, emergency visits, admission, or in office appointments?
In the event of an emergency hospital visit, hospital admission, or need for prescription, most insurances absorb a significant amount of the cost.
How many times can I see my therapist within a year?
Each insurance company has their own specific coverage limits which detail how many therapy sessions are allowed within a plan year.
